The RE-WIRING project is funded by Horizon Europe and its goal is to explore gender inequality from various perspectives. It launched in March 2023, and encompasses research across six countries — Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa, Poland, and the UK. The project addresses, amongst others, pay disparities, the representation of men and women in media and arts, and institutionalized gender discrimination within different sectors.
The RE-WIRINGproject aims to look at the systems and structures that contribute to discrimination against women and girls, from laws and policies to the actions of everyday institutions like schools, companies, and even families. The area of focus is how the education system reinforces stereotypical views on the roles of women and men.
The goal is to rethink and redesign the systems to create real change, ensuring that equality isn’t just about passing laws but making sure everyone, from governments to businesses and to social groups plays a role in promoting fairness. The lasting consequences of RE-WIRING are going to be changes in how we think about and implement gender equality.
