EQUAMAN Masculinity Navigator: Exploration of the modern masculinity roles

The Masculinity Navigator project – unpacking the relationship between masculine roles, well-being, and gender equality (EQUAMAN), running from 2022 to 2025 in Poland and Norway, focuses on how men perceive gender equality and its impact on their well-being. Our interdisciplinary team of researchers explores how understanding gender roles can improve men’s well-being and what motivates men to engage in gender equality movements.

This project represents a fresh approach to studying masculinity and well-being. By combining different disciplines and cross-cultural perspectives, and using various methods like focus groups, surveys, and workshops in schools and universities, we aim to uncover the complex links between men’s roles, well-being, and inequality.

The findings of Masculinity Navigator will support global efforts to improve gender equality and overall well-being for both men and women. Through qualitative research, we will gain knowledge about the barriers that prevent men from engaging in movements for gender equality, and what factors foster men’s willingness to take part in such activities.

Effects of the project will include the implementation of educational workshops for schools and universities, and testing their effectiveness in changing men’s attitudes toward gender roles and equality. As a consequence, a training guide for educators working on these issues will be developed. Read more: https://towardsgenderharmony.ug.edu.pl/equaman-masculinity-navigator/
