The SAFER project (Support & Awareness for Female fans in European football through Research, prevention, and remedy) is a three-year initiative funded by Erasmus+ and led by Football Supporters Europe (FSE).
The project is aimed to address gender-based violence and discrimination within European football particularly towards the team members and their spectators. SAFER engages many parties involved, such as supporters, match organizers, experts, and stakeholders in order to implement evidence-based prevention and action-based mechanisms.
In SAFER we explore the scope of the phenomena within the frames of scientific research on the prevalence of gender-based violence in football settings. Further, the research team strives to identify and promote effective practices for preventing the issue. As an effect, we aim to create comprehensive policies to support survivors of gender-based violence.
The expected outcome of SAFER is to gather valuable insights on the topic, and further identify best practices in both prevention and support towards all survivors. All these efforts are designed in order to make European football more inclusive, ensuring the safety and well-being of all players and supporters.
